Specimen Archive · Ethereum

Living things,
born in the chain.

1024 deep-sea specimens, each one generated and animated entirely inside the contract. No servers. No image files. Open the code and the whole organism is there, breathing — forever.

You're not buying a picture of a jellyfish.

You're buying a piece of generative software that draws and animates itself on Ethereum — something almost no team can build. Here's why that matters.

It can't go offline

Most NFTs are a link to a picture on someone's server. If that server dies, the art dies. Abyssal has no link and no file — the creature is drawn by the contract itself. As long as Ethereum exists, so does it.

It's actually alive

Each specimen is animated on-chain: a breathing core, drifting motion, undulating limbs, bioluminescence that pulses. Not a static JPEG with a 'rare' tag. A living thing.

You can't fake it

Anyone can right-click a picture. Nobody can fake a contract that generates and animates its own art on mainnet. Open the code, read it yourself. The proof is public.

The Specimen Scanner

Every one of the 1024 is already determined by the contract. Pull any of them up, live, before a single one is minted.

Reading manifest from chain…

These traits aren't stored in a database — they're computed from the token seed by the renderer contract, the moment you ask. That's what "on-chain" actually means.

The manifest

Every specimen is different

ClassMedusa or Ctenophore — two deep-sea body plans, each with its own motion.
BioluminescenceCyan, Azure, Cobalt, Violet, Orchid, Ember, or Viridian — the glow that defines the specimen.
LuminanceSteady, Pulsing, Cascading, or Flickering light behaviour.
AppendagesTentacle or comb-row count, drawn fresh from the seed.
Recovered DepthHow deep it was found, from −1200 m into the abyss.

Questions

Is the art really 100% on-chain?+

Yes. The image and the traits are generated by the renderer contract inside tokenURI. There is no IPFS, no server, no off-chain file. This very page reads the art straight from the contract.

What's the supply and price?+

1024 total, 8 reserved. Phase 1 is a free mint (1 per wallet, you pay gas only). Phase 2 is 0.005 ETH (max 2 per wallet).

Why free first?+

So the family is wide, not whale-heavy. Early believers get in for the cost of gas; the public phase comes after.

Where can I see it after minting?+

Your specimen shows up in your wallet and on OpenSea, animated, because the SVG is served by the contract itself.

Is there a roadmap or token?+

No promises we can't keep. This is on-chain art first. Anything we add later, we'll ship before we announce.
